Chad Swenson for Broomfield City Council

Meet Chad

Husband, Father, Neighbor, and Community Leader

I’m proud to call Colorado my lifelong home and Broomfield my community for the past 14 years. My wife, Kathy, and I have built our lives here, raising our blended family of four amazing young adults — Grant, Grace, Austin, and Bailey. Three of our children attended Broomfield High School, where they thrived both academically and athletically. We are proud that all four have earned or are pursuing their college degrees.

Professionally, I’ve been a licensed real estate broker for the past 25 years and have had the honor of receiving the Five Star Professional Award in real estate 14 times. I also coach and mentor 24 real estate agents, helping them grow successful, ethical businesses rooted in service. In addition, I’m a certified substitute teacher and deeply value education, a commitment I share with Kathy, who has dedicated the last 24 years to her career as an educator.

Community involvement has always been central to who I am. I’ve served as Community Chair on the Board of the Colorado Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, coached high school football and multiple youth sports, taught Sunday school at my church, and shared my experience with marriage and family with Christian men’s and couples' groups. These opportunities to encourage and support others in their personal journeys have been some of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

I’m a proud graduate of Colorado State University and believe strongly in the power of community, service, and integrity. I’m running for City Council because I have a vested interest in seeing Broomfield thrive. I want to help ensure our city remains a vibrant, healthy, and growing community — one where families flourish, businesses succeed, and every resident has a voice.

Together, let’s build Broomfield’s future.

Community involvement has always been central to who I am.

Why I’m Running for City Council

Broomfield deserves leadership that listens and leads with integrity.

Broomfield is a vibrant, growing community—and we deserve leadership that reflects our values, listens to our concerns, and leads with integrity.

Too often, our City Council operates with limited dialogue and little meaningful debate. Proposals are routinely passed without dissent, which may appear efficient, but it points to a deeper issue: a lack of transparency, accountability, and true representation.

I believe Broomfield can do better.

What I Believe

Encourage open dialogue. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and bring forward new ideas—not just follow the status quo.

Prioritize people over politics. My decisions will always be guided by what’s best for Broomfield—not by political ambition or party lines.

Promote transparency. I’ll advocate for accessible public meetings, clear communication, and meaningful opportunities for residents to participate.

Represent all of Broomfield. I’ll work for you—not special interests, consultants, or future career goals.

Let’s Talk About the Budget

Smart decisions today ensure a stronger Broomfield tomorrow.

  • City spending has increased by 136% since 2017, far outpacing both inflation and population growth. In 2024 alone, Broomfield is spending $10,873 per resident—up 95% from 2017.¹

  • Taxes and utility rates are rising sharply. Since 2023, property taxes have increased by 25.25%, and water rates by 77%, placing a growing burden on households.² ⁴

  • Residents’ voices are being sidelined. Expensive surveys are often used to justify pre-made decisions—undermining trust rather than building it.³

  • New debt is on the horizon. Proposed bond measures for infrastructure projects like the North Water Towers and municipal buildings could lock in long-term financial obligations for future generations.³

  • Progress is stalling. Projects like the Downtown redevelopment remain unclear, with limited updates and little visible momentum.

We can fund priorities and maintain strong city services—without losing sight of fiscal responsibility.

A Better Path Forward

I believe in a city government that:

  • Sets clear and focused priorities

  • Uses tax dollars wisely

  • Communicates honestly with residents

  • And most importantly—listens

Broomfield deserves a City Council that works for the people—not behind closed doors, not on autopilot, and not for political advancement.
